What is Guest Posting?

A Guest Post is a an article or blog that you write, which is then published on someone else's website. Guest posting is a very popular practice online and it can be incredibly influential to growing your blog following, email list, and brand recognition.

Why Should You Guest Post?

Writing guest posts can be incredibly time consuming, but the rewards are endless. Here are just a few reasons why you should take your guest posting strategy seriously.

1. Guest posting allows you to meet new people and make new connections

When you guest post on another site, not only are you networking with the site owner, but you're also exposing yourself and your brand to the site's audience. This means that tons of people (who otherwise might have never found you or your content) will be able to "meet you" virtually and read your content. If they like you enough, they just might follow that link in your author-bio back to your site. That's good news for you, my friend.

2. Guest posting gives you some good link-juice for the search engines

When you guest post on a site, they'll give you a do-follow link from their website to yours. A do-follow link means that Google (or any search engine) will follow the link over to your site. That's a GOOD thing. That means the search engine will see your article and crawl your site. Generally speaking, the more do-follow links you have from credible websites (once that are within your niche), the more credible YOUR site will appear in the eyes of a super judgmental search engine bot that considers credibility of sites when choosing where to rank them. What does that mean? It means get more links. More do-follow links from credible sources = the higher you could rank in search results.

3. Guest posting helps position you as an expert in your field/niche

If you're constantly providing valuable, actionable, information-rich content on stellar websites through guest posts, it won't be long until people start to know your name and view you as a true expert within your field. It's all about building up your personal brand. Guest posting is a great start.

4. Guest posting can help grow your email list <<< THIS IS A BIG ONE AND IT'S WHY I'VE INCLUDED IT!!

When you guest post on a site you'll usually get an author-bio at the end of a post. You can use this author-bio to promote yourself and your content. Instead of linking just to your homepage, try and get those readers to sign up for your email list through a call to action ("sign up for my Time Management Toolkit") in your bio.
